At Flying Skull, our mission is to promote wellness of body and mind through aerial fitness and circus-inspired movement arts classes. Everyone, including you, is capable of doing some seriously amazing stuff. The only difference between the people doing the amazing stuff and the audience is that the doers decided to give it a try!You don't have to be an athlete or a gymnast to participate. We're a community of scientists, project managers, nurses, retail workers, students, parents, etc- people who have full lives and careers who need life to be a little more epic. Wherever you're at, we'll meet you there.Whether you dream of flying on a silk or your feet flying apart in a splits class, sign up for Flying Skull classes today!

Classes

All classes are $20. Preregistration required!

Classes are held at A2 Yoga- 2030 Commerce Bld, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.

Aerial SilksFly higher through the power of your own two arms. Perfect for building strength all over, but especially in your upper body, and for taking your mind off mundane stuff to focus on survival having fun instead.Different levels available- see class sign up for details.

LyraDo you not have enough aches and pains? Then may we interest you in a lyra class! Also known as aerial hoop, the lyra is a bar apparatus that serves as a prop for performing beautiful poses and dance-like sequences. It is a steel bar, though, so especially in early days be prepared for some fabulous bruises.

Aerial YogaTwo words: floating savasana. For people who want a fresh take on a traditional yoga practice, aerial yoga is an accessible, low-flying class that uses a silk hammock like a prop. No circus tricks or flippy-do's here, just mindful breathing, powerful postures, and a relaxing corpse pose at the end. By far the most relaxing flying your skull will ever do.

Noodle ArmsThis (mostly) ground-based aerial conditioning class will develop the muscles and flexibility you need to get up in the air on the silks and the lyra. Open to all skulls with bodies still attached, whether you plan on taking other aerial classes or not.

Splits FlexibilityFor anyone on a quest to get their feet as far away from each other as possible. Unless your splits are already flat on the floor, you can benefit from the class. ESPECIALLY if your splits are A-shaped.Class alternates between front splits and middle splits from week to week.

Hand Balancing/Back BendingClass alternates between the two topics every week.Turn your skull upside down and let your feet experience being up top instead. Or, work on getting into bridge by pushing up from the floor, or literally bending over backwards! Every class includes conditioning, stretching, and the assumption that if you could already do all this stuff you wouldn't be here.

FAQ's

Q: What's the minimum age for classes?
A: 14 years old, though we occasionally make exceptions.

Q: Do you offer kids' classes?
A: Not at the moment.

Q: What's the maximum weight limit?
A: There isn't one. As long as you weigh less than 1500 pounds, you're good.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Just yourself. We provide all equipment. If you're attending a ground skills class or aerial yoga you're welcome to bring your own mat. Water bottles can be brought into the studio.

Q: What should I wear?
A: Clothes that aren't too billowy (most t-shirts are fine) which cover your hips, the backs of your knees, and your lower back. Dangly jewelry should be removed and zippers should either be taped down or avoided altogether. Please, no strong fragrances, not even essential oils. Deodorant/anti-persp is appreciated.

Q: What about foot gear?
A: Aerial silks are done barefoot. All other classes can be done barefoot or wearing socks depending on your preference. Be advised: A2 Yoga has lovely hardwood floors, so wearing socks can be like ice skating.

Q: What's the parking situation?
A: A2 Yoga has free parking in front of the building, and there's free street parking on Commerce Blvd.

Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
A: You can cancel or reschedule your class by clicking the link at the bottom of your confirmation email. Sorry, no refunds if you have to do either less than 24 hours before class. Having trouble or need a refund? Email us.

Q: Why "Flying Skull?"
A: Because it makes me chuckle.

Q: Who are all the skulls?
A: Glad you asked! Their names are Cranielius, AHHHnold WHEEEsley, and Mort.
